iPAQ 210 shipping on Friday? Huh?

Last weekend I posted on how HP was cancelling orders for the iPAQ 210. Now Engadget is reporting that they have bumped the price from $399.99 to $449.99 and shows shipping 10/26/07. Now I dont believe this, but I hope it’s true.

HP iPAQ 110, 210 delays

hpipaq210 Over in the forums a post caught my eyes yesterday, HP cancels orders on 210 series.

Got a call from HP today. The guy told me that they are canceling all orders on the 210 series that they have accepted stating that they won’t be available until sometime in January, if then. He said sorry, but there’s nothing he can do and nothing that HP is willing to do for anyone who ordered, even guaranteeing the price that we ordered at ($399). Basically they don’t have much concern about customer satisfaction. If you’ve had your ordered canceled, post and let us know what they told you.

Well, since then HP’s site says coming 2008. I know a lot are ready to get their hands on these, so I can understand the frustration on delays. I decided to look around the interwebs a bit and came across a post posing from my friend, Kevin Tofel, on the same subject. ( New HP iPAQ 110, 210 delayed? )

Kevin said it perfectly when he said that he’d hate to see HP lose momentum on their resurgence back into the PDA market.

sc001 John Chan of Cnet Asia gives the new HP iPAQ 112 a spin…

Dedicated PDAs are a dying breed. The demand for such devices is shrinking because PDA-phones make more sense for many who wish to reduce the number of items carried around. Granted, some organizations still need them for specific tasks like inventory management. And certainly, some consumers still prefer to have a dedicated device because the lack of cellular radios means longer battery life. It will take a big organization to cater to such a niche market, and they don’t come bigger than HP, which has one enterprise and one consumer handheld in its portfolio of iPaq devices. We take a first look at the consumer-focused iPaq 112 Classic Handheld.

Large as it may be, the display on this iPaq is still just a QVGA one. Given that old devices like the Dell Axim X51v already came with VGA ones, we wonder why HP couldn’t throw that into the 112 as well. Cost might have been an issue here, but we would take sharper text and images and pay more for it anytime.

This is supposed to be HP’s thinnest Pocket PC yet. If it’s thinner than the 1900 series, I’ll be impressed. It sure looks sexy though.

HP iPAQ 110 / HP iPAQ 210 Release Dates

ipaq200 I sense a little sarcasm in Joshua Topolsky’s blurb below about the launch of the new iPAQs. He’d be surprised how many people *really are* on pins and needles around this parts of the interwebs. Anyhow, they reported it and it’s good news for a lot of us around here, right?

We know that you’re all on pins and needles right now waiting to find out when you can get your hands on those new HP PDAs, the iPAQ 110 and 210, and how much it will cost you when you do. Well, you’re in luck, because the company has just added shipping dates and pricing to its website, thus making your Fall plans a little bit easier.
